Management Skills: Not Just for Pastors, part 6
It’s more important than preaching.
Pastor, Author, Church Consultant, and more, Bill Easum wrote this and has graciously given me his expressed permission to share it with you here: “They didn’t teach me management skills in seminary. I wish they had because as the leader of a church I needed them badly and it’s a shame I had to learn them on my own. So I thought i would pass on some pointers.
And remember this: preaching, as important as it is, isn’t the most important thing you do as a pastor.
The most important thing you do is introduce people to Jesus and help them grow into spiritual redwoods.
So instead of burying yourself in your office and your books, invest yourself in people, first with your staff then with those around you.
— A good start would be what a mentor advised me: “Schedule ‘ministry by walking around.'”
Wanna read a good book with clear examples? Pick any of the New Testament’s four versions of the Gospel: Matthew’s, or Mark’s, or Luke’s, or John’s. And then follow the example of our Lord and connect with people.
