The Cup
Cathy Obernuefemann is a Worship Leader and a long-time friend. She recently shared an observation and a question with me and said it’d be okay to mention them here.
She’s noticed how excited St. Louis Blues fans still are over The Stanley Cup, and rightly so.
She’s heard refered to simply as The Cup.
She asks, “Wouldn’t it be great if Christians got as excited over that other Cup and everything it’s about when we come to Holy Communion?”
Goooooood point.
Our old friend St. Paul helps us with an answer, framed as a question: Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? (1 Corinthians 10:16)
