We Are Now Children of God
Dear friends, now we are children of God,
and what we will be has not yet been made known.
— 1st John 3:2
“All this is God’s gift, offered to us without price.”
I shared that sentence in worship this past Sunday.
It’s from our official United Methodist liturgy for The Baptismal Covenant IV: Congregational Reaffirmation of The Baptismal Covenant.
“All this is God’s gift, offered to us without price.”
We renewed our baptismal vows, whether we spoke for ourselves or someone took those vows for us.
“All this is God’s gift, offered to us without price.”
We remembered how good and gracious God has been with us, even going as far as —
We were buried with him through baptism
into death in order that,
just as Christ was raised from the dead
through the glory of the Father,
we too may live a new life.
— Romans 6:4
— Grab onto that promise at the end of that verse with me, that right here and right now we too may lead a new life.
“All this is God’s gift, offered to us without price.”
What evidence is there that we are indeed leading a new life today since now we are children of God?
