What to Wear?

January 12, 2019

“What’s the dress code?”

I’ve asked that more times in my life that I’ll admit.

Especially now, in retirement, when I’m invited to come be the guest preacher somewhere.

It’s an important question. Looking too casual in some settings leads to not being taken seriously.

But seeming immediately too formal in others leads to being written off as outdated.

There’s one instance where I don’t have to worry about what to wear. Charles Wesley’s hymn, where we’ve been camped out these past several days, says this —

No condemnation now I dread;
Jesus, and all in Him, is mine;
Alive in Him, my living Head,
And clothed in righteousness divine,
Bold I approach th’ eternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ my own.

— By the loving grace of God, you and I are wrapped up in the righteousness of Christ.

No way it gets any better than that!
