Being on God’s Side

“We make the grave mistake of assuming that the life faith is about deciding who is in and who is out,” writes Mary C. Earle, “who is on our side and who is not.

“What if we commit to being on God’s side?” she asks  on page 323  of Disciplines 2018. “What if we decide to love our neighbors as we love God?

“Being on God’s side means being friends of God, who has befriended us in Jesus,” she concludes, “as we proclaim that everyone comes within Jesus’ saving embrace.”

Join me right now in a prayer —

Loving God, help me be on your side:

the side of real compassion and active care.

Deliver me from my self-righteous habit

of excluding others.

Amen.
