God Trusts You

July 21, 2018

God isn’t late with his promise as some measure lateness. God is restraining himself on account of you, holding back the End because he doesn’t want anyone lost. (2nd Peter 3:9, the Message version)

Wait, wait. I can easily believe that God’s not late. Sure.

But that next part: God is restraining himself on account of you.

Meaning, us? As in you and me?

What’s up with that?

God is holding back the End because he doesn’t want anyone lost.

Sounds inclusive to me.

Sounds like everybody’s invited.

Even sounds like there’s a place reserved for everyone.

But not everybody knows that yet. So there’s work to be done.

God is restraining himself on account of you.

And we’re the ones to do it.

As I’ve been known to include in Benedictions, we’re sent out “in the name, power, peace and protection of the God who loves you…and trusts you.”

Time for action.
