“I Pray that All of Them Might Be”
The Rev. James P. Nolte and I were in school together. Recently he wrote this, and it’s with his expressed and gracious permission that I share it with you here —
Why does every issue that faces us in our nation have to be “either or”? It can be “both and.”
This, in a nutshell, is what is wrong with politics in the USA today.
We have been so polarized that we have become paralyzed.
— That last line applies other places as well.
Like, oh, in some churches.
And in entire denominations.
Painfully true: We have been so polarized that we have become paralyzed.
By contrast, “I pray that all of them may be one.”
Jesus said that in John 17.
What a contrast: unity vs. polarized & paralyzed.
In light of our Lord’s prayer for our unity, what about our beliefs and actions might you and I change today?
Amazingly, we can help answer Christ’s prayer!
Or…we can stay polarized and paralyzed.
What’s it gonna be?
