Checked the Weather Yet? — part 6

June 28, 2018

How’s the weather looking where you are for this weekend?

And as the people called Methodists used to ask one another, “How is it with your soul?”

As for my answer to that soul situation question, this prayer says what I can’t put into words.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer spoke for me, and maybe for you as well, when he wrote,

O God, early in the morning I cry to you.
Help me to pray
And to concentrate my thoughts on you:
I cannot do this alone.
In me there is darkness,
But with you there is light;
I am lonely, but you do not leave me;
I am feeble in heart, but with you there is help;
I am restless, but with you there is peace.
In me there is bitterness, but with you there is patience;
I do not understand your ways,
But you know the way for me…
Restore me to liberty,
And enable me to live now
That I may answer before you and before me.

Remember a few days ago we thought together about choices, actions, and consequences? Yeah…join me right now in these words, in light of all that:

Restore me to liberty,
And enable me to live now
That I may answer before you and before me.
