Checked the Weather Yet? — part 5
How did we know the weather before we had cellphones?!
Did we wait for that moment in the network news broadcast?
Did we check the newspaper?
Did we sometimes walk outside and how it felt?
Regardless of the weather, even our own internal weather today, this Dietrich Bonhoeffer prayer applies:
O God, early in the morning I cry to you.
Help me to pray
And to concentrate my thoughts on you:
I cannot do this alone.
In me there is darkness,
But with you there is light;
I am lonely, but you do not leave me;
I am feeble in heart, but with you there is help;
I am restless, but with you there is peace.
In me there is bitterness, but with you there is patience;
I do not understand your ways,
But you know the way for me…
Restore me to liberty
One week from today we’ll celebrate the birth of our nation with parades and cookouts and concerts and fireworks and more.
But as Christ followers, we don’t have to wait a week to celebrate the fact that Christ has set us free to live a free life. (— Galatians 5:1)
Amen?
And then the next part of that same verse is our clear call to action: So take your stand!
Where, when, and for what will you take your stand today because Christ has set us free to live a free life?
You’re in my prayers; please keep me in yours.
