A Way Out of the Weeds, Maybe
Maybe you learned this prayer like I did, from a children’s tv show when we were even younger than we are today:
God is great
God is good
Let us thank God
for our food.
Maybe that prayer changed over time. Maybe you went down the path of
God is great
God is good
Wish I believed that
Wish I could.
Maybe part of what moved you in that direction was the attitudes and behaviors of some of the people who claimed the name of Christ.
Maybe our old friend St. Paul has a good question for us right about now: What if some were unfaithful? Does their faithlessness nullify the faithfulness of God? (Romans 3:3)
Maybe we need to relearn what our Hebrew ancestors understood well about the difference between the Creator and the created.
Maybe we can learn from them.
Maybe we can let God be God.
Maybe we can reach back and pick up some of what we lost along the way.
Maybe by the grace of God we can start to find our way out of the weeds.
