Not on Nonsense
Gregory Porter is a blues singer and much more.
“Take Me To The Alley” is Porter’s fourth release. His third album brought him international fame, numerous jazz accolades, and a Grammy. After all that, this work is more inward and personal.
There are two songs about his young son and three for his mom, who, while dying of cancer, encouraged him to pursue a career in music. Porter says, “The thing I always remember when I’m writing my songs is something my mom said: ‘Sing with understanding.’ This new album was released on his mother’s birthday.
“I don’t want to blow my gift on nonsense,” he concludes.
From his table where he’s waiting for his coffee to cool, St. Paul nods and says, Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for people. ( — Colossians 3:23)
