Two Prayers for Today, Maundy Thursday

April 13, 2017

Gracious God,

your Anointed One, on the night before he suffered,

instituted the sacrament of his body and blood.

Mercifully grant that we may receive it thankfully,

in remembrance of Jesus Christ our Lord,

who in these holy mysteries gives us a pledge of eternal life.

Amen. (p.283, current United Methodist Hymnal)

—–

Lord Jesus Christ, you have walked with us on our Lenten journey.

You have been with us as we encountered each barrier and obstacle.

It is by your guidance and help that we have overcome so much.

We have been strengthened by you.

Now we give you thanks that you have brought us to this holy meal in which we have shared and become one with you through receiving the bread dipped in the cup.

Nourish our souls and spirits by your love.

Thus empowered and inspired by your example, may we go into the world to serve, heal, and welcome all people in your name. Amen.  (by Nancy C. Townley)
