They Feed Our Poor, Too
“The godless Galileans feed our poor in addition to their own,” said the Roman Emperor Julian. According to Common Prayer: A Liturgy for Ordinary Radicals, he was speaking about the early Christians.
Where’d those Jesus-followers get such an idea?
From Isaiah 11:1-10? Yup.
From what Jesus himself did? Yup.
Whether in derision or praise, may it be said that we do that, too.
Not sure where to begin? Start asking around in your own local church, like even today.
And I hope and pray that someday someone will say of us that “they feed our poor in addition to their own.”
In the Sermon on the Mount, Christ told us who was blessed. We love to say in our prayers- God take care of it. If Christ lives in us, doesn’t that mean we are to do something to make it happen? Come on church, live it not just talk it to death.
