Linda’s Answer

October 5, 2016

She’s a Lutheran missionary to the Methodists.

At least that’s what I occasionally call our church organist. She smiles and laughs and then we both comment about how we’re all on the same team.

During Holy Communion this past weekend, among other pieces, she played a moving arrangement of the classic hymn It Is Well with My Soul.

Apparently I was walking down the hall either humming or whistling that after worship. She heard me, clapped and said, “Good! You caught it!”

“Excuse me?”

“That song. You caught that I played it. Because of what you wrote.”

“Help me here.”

“In your church newsletter column this month you asked that Methodist question. I answered with that song.”

Blank stare from me.

“Here,” she said as she handed me a newsletter she’d picked up at The Welcome Station. She’d opened it to the monthly column in question.

I skimmed it. I understood. “Oh, sure! ‘How is it with your soul?’ is the question, right?”

“And that song is my answer,” she said as she turned away.

So let me ask you today, “How is it with your soul?”
