Is There Anybody Alive?
“Is there anybody alive out there?!” The crowd erupts and a Bruce Springsteen concert begins.
“Is there anybody alive out there?!” Too many pastors wonder that as they look at their congregations.
Too many people wonder as they drive by too many church buildings,”Is there anybody alive in there?!”
Even worse, what Jesus said about some people might apply to us: Frauds! You’re like manicured grave plots, grass clipped and the flowers bright, but six feet down it’s all rotting bones and worm-eaten flesh. (Matthew 23:27)
Enough! Time to reclaim and rekindle what Jesus meant when he said, I came so you can have real and eternal life, more and better life than you ever dreamed. (John 10:10b)
Lemme ask us right now, on behalf of so many: “Is there anybody alive?”
…well?
This makes me want to cry.

I watched a program last night that painted all Christians with a broad brush–more like a roller–quoting the loudest from this week professing Christianity out of one side of their mouth while preaching hate and racism out of the other. An atheist to begin with, his position on the subject of the church is being reinforced while the real Christians turn the other cheek. I am not questioning my belief or the power of prayer. I do believe becoming vocal would only pour gasoline on the fire he is leaning away from.
It has made me question my sharing of the Word. How many like him are being pushed even further away from belief? Is there an answer?
More question than comment, huh? Like Naomi, it makes me, not just want to, but to cry!
