What’s the Point?

Going to worship this weekend?

Good, but be aware —

These people draw near to me with their lips,

but their hearts are far from me.

Because of what we’re in the middle of as a nation, is something special going on in worship?

Again, good, but be aware —

I hate your festivals and

I take no delight in your assemblies.

Take away from me the noise of your songs.

— Amos 5:20

So what does God want from us beyond, or even instead of, a carefully crafted but painfully self-absorbed religious show?

Let justice roll down like waters,

righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.

— Amos 5:21
