One Truth Four Ways

March 27, 2016

All four Gospels present that first Easter differently, which is understandable — we’ve all told about something that happened only to have someone who’d been there with us say, “Wait, that’s not the way I remember it” — but the central point is the same:

The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid; I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here, for he has been raised, just as he said. Come and see the place where he was lying. Then go quickly and tell his disciples, ‘He has been raised from the dead.'”  (Matthew 28)

As they went into the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed. But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has been raised!” (Mark 16)

When they went in, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were perplexed about this, suddenly two men stood beside them in dazzling attire. The women were terribly frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here, but has been raised!” (Luke 24)

Simon Peter went right into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen burial cloth lying there, and the cloth which had been around Jesus’ head, not lying with the strips of linen cloth but rolled up in a place by itself. (John 20)

The tomb of Jesus was empty, and it still is.

Because Christ is alive!
