Because You Asked: “I Believe Christ is Calling Us To….”

September 14, 2015

This is our congregation’s 180th Birthday Party Three-Day Weekend.

Saturday evening we had Worship in our fellowship hall followed by birthday cake and ice cream and ten Historical Speakers of all ages sharing bits of our past and artifacts on display and The Rivers of Life Clergy Band playing on our stage.

Sunday morning and again this evening in Worship, my sermon included three key things. Several have asked me to share them again, and I’m happy to do so here. (If you’re not a part of Effingham’s Centenary United Methodist Church, we’d sure love to have you…even long distance. Contact me for details.)

Here’s part of what I said:

I believe Christ is calling us forward. As your directing pastor, I believe God’s inviting us into a future that’s even better than our rich past. Moving forward together, three things are significant:

  1. I believe Christ is calling us to pursue what matters.
  2. I believe Christ is calling us to go into the community.
  3. I believe Christ is calling us to take on the greatest needs of our day.

Or, to shuffle those around, “Community Needs Matter.”

Join me in praying and working with the rest of us as we raise our eyes beyond ourselves to our neighborhood.
