One Day

July 14, 2015

Race car driver Mark Amenda says, With the Lord’s help the only person I can change is me and I can only do it one day at a time.

Mark’s also a trusted friend and a respected pastoral colleague.

And Mark’s right about the schedule he uses: one day at a time.

That’s today.

What are you and I going to do with this great gift of today?

With the Lord’s help the only person I can change is me and I can only do it one day at a time.

Having had an intimate relationship with a group that provides gentle help in that concept, it becomes no longer stitched on a pillow phrase, something I have to live to survive! I quit going to meetings several years ago, because of the gap generational, I felt I could live on the 18 years under my belt. For the most part, I can. Reminders like this, and if I recall correctly, the Upper Room, today help me stay on track. I also have some well-worn literature filled with folded pages and post-it arrows that I can readily pull off the shelf!! It was embarking on the journey to get off the dysfunctional merry-go-round that was my family, that led me to that and therapy. Between both of those things, learning that the only person I could control or change was me, was the most freeing concept since my dedicating my heart to the Lord!! One Day at a time. Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, be present in the presence of today and keep track of Nanette!
