“I Crashed 3 Times”
Friend and colleague David Kueker recently pointed me toward a piece about one of his favorite instructors, Dr. Wayne Ward. Dr. Ward, a Southern Baptist seminary professor, said this about what he saw as his own denomination’s “ever-increasing love for ever-narrowing creeds” —
“I crashed three times in the Navy.
I can tell you what happens when you think you are dying.
I don’t go back to any statement of faith I ever signed.
I just say, ‘Lord, here I come — I love you and trust you.’”

Today in worship, Sunday School, someplace sometime, may we find encouragement for that kind of faith. Amen?
