“Copy off me, Daddy Scheets,” said 5 year old Joseph.

I knew it was serious, because he called by my full name.

“Copy off me” was a directive to do exactly as he was doing.

Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw, says our old friend St. Paul in Philppinas 4:9.

How would it be if people learned ho to live as Christians by copying off you and me?

What if people put into practice what they saw us doing and heard us saying?

More about this tomorrow.

For today, let’s be aware that someone is noticing.  Someone is watching.

Dare we say, “Copy off me” or should we do things differently first?

    Mike Huckabee’s comments of this week. This country was formed by people escaping religious prosecution. As a nation formed, one of the smartest thing, debated for days, was that this nation would not, like England, France, Spain, etc, have a state religion. I hear a push for otherwise, do you? I remember in Confirmation Class, our study and respect for other religions. Has it changed so much since we were kids. Didn’t we learn in school, melting pot, tolerance?? You’ll notice in the comment I didn’t capitalize “christians”. Such as…

    Such as… The people who use their pulpits of power to use The Bible (particularly the Old Testament,) The Old Testament did teach specifically about such things as in only reproductive outcomes of husband and wife. Some days I am not sure they have read the Good News of the New Testament and certainly skipped Christ’s teachings) to justify laws that impose their views, through laws, to control people’s choices (e.g. laws regarding a woman’s health and access to safe health care). I bristle at the rhetoric of hate from their “pulpits”. Jesus asserted that the greatest commandment was of Love. They have definitely missed that line about worrying about the log in their own eye than the speck in another’s. They hate gays and lesbians; they, more or less, created classes and disdain the lowest class as badly as was done in medieval times; without the alms for the poor. I, personally, relate.

    When they talk about budgets and cuts, I am reminded of the young man that Jesus told, “…You still lack one thing. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come and follow me. But when he heard this, he became very sorrowful, for he was very rich.” Luke 18:22-23 NKJV. I could write you a 14- to 15-inch column on this topic, this comment/essay is just the beginning. Oh, oh, there is the oratory proselytizing their Christianity to be the only valid religion; I would much rather have them concentrating on making English a requisite for citizenship (I hate to press one for English). They profess their “Christianity” in the limelight before the American people and then, again in the limelight, proceed to not model Christianity. Maybe I understand my Christianity in an entirely different way than I should. I feel in my childhood, youth, adult Bible Studies, adult discussion Sunday school, was that living the Word was the major component of sharing our religion. I remember a chalk presentation, “Walk the Talk!”.

    As I said, I could go ceaselessly on “Such as…”, but it is a busy day ahead. Furthermore, I have yet to get to your other comments and new essays!
