Pray for The Peace of Jerusalem and Ferguson

August 19, 2014

From a corner of the complexity that is Ferguson comes this, copied from a friend who wrote it yesterday and has given me permission to share it with you today, but understandably without any names —

To those who keep posting about how disturbed they are by the force shown by the police:

My question is then how should this be handled?

When they downgraded their presence and went with no riot gear, no external vests, and no major shows of force.  Citizens were shot and killed by othe citizens, police officers and their vehicles were assaulted, and stores looted.

They are damned if they do and damned if they don’t.

If you are against “militarization” that’s fine but stop degrading the police that are leaving their families (I know of someone literally called back into work while on paternity leave with a 2 week old baby at home) and putting their lives on the line on an ongoing daily basis.

My husband literally told me that he heard bullets by his head last night. They are responding like its a war zone because it basically is.

As families of officers and for the officers themselves, constant degradation of their appearance and justified actions are insulting.

You are more than welcome to share your opinion but to constantly whine about what’s happening with no suggestions or ideas on what you would actually like to see happen that is a viable tactic to keep both the citizens and the police safe, it’s extremely insulting.

Joe here again. You know how we’re told to “pray for the peace of Jerusalem,” right?  Let’s add Ferguson to that prayer list.  Mercy.
