The 1st United Church of Hardee’s
True story I heard at Annual Conference this week —
A retired United Methodist clergy in Illinois was about to turn 95, and announced he’d like to preach again.
Just once.
The pastor serving the church he attended opened the pulpit to him, and it went well.
He preached again for his 96th birthday.
And his 97th.
In fact, he preached on the Sunday closest to his birthday from age 95 until he died at 103.
He was already working on his sermon for his 104th birthday.
Those Sundays were the biggest crowds in the history of that church, in part because he invited his coffee buddies from Hardee’s to come.
And they did.
Sooooooo many things about all that to celebrate!
