Memorial Day and Sam Who is 5

Ella Byrd Rinehart is an attorney.

We met back when she was a youth and I was already an adult and we served together on our church’s National Youth Ministry Organization.

She recently wrote this,and graciously gave me permission to share it with you —

At the graveyard yesterday

we put flowers on my mom’s grave.

Also, we put flowers on our first baby’s grave.

It really got to me when Sam

put the flowers there

and said it was his big sister

and she died.

He then sat down on my mom’s grave

and just looked at her picture.

Trying to explain to a five year old

death and heaven is very hard.

It is.  No matter what our age, it is very hard.

Today is a day for remembering and for praying.
