A Prayer: Minds and Mirrors
“Place your mind before the mirror of eternity,” Clare wrote in the 12th century.
“Be transformed by the renewing of your mind,” Paul wrote in Romans 12:2.
A prayer from Korea in the current edition of The United Methodist Hymnal invites us to say,
O God, just as we look into a mirror
to see any soiled spots on our face,
so let us look to you
in order to understand
the things that we have done amiss.
We are like a reed shaken in the wind;
we are inexpressibly weak.
Leave us not to ourselves,
but dwell in our hearts
and guide our thoughts and actions.
Amen.
Today, may the Holy Spirit weave together in us what Clare wrote, what Paul said, and what we just prayed.
