For Retired Pastors Only…or Not
I am struck by the number of retired preachers I know who do not go to church at all, unless they are on the church staff, as a part-time minister of visitation or similar position, wrote John Robert McFarland yesterday.
Retired Pastors, I ask you — is that true or not, and why or why not?
I’d really like to hear from you, either here or privately.
And all you non-pastor types, what say ye? Again, please reply either here or discreetly.
And thank you in advance.
the cruelty and burnout of the church situation keeps many away. we spent 3 years looking for the perfect church. Found it at Kewanee United Methodist Church

Martin: two key words there, “cruelty” and “burnout.” And three years…ouch. Glad you found a welcome with those United Methodists in Kewanee, that speaks volumes of Hope!

In my ministry I’ve had three retired pastors in my congregations. They were the most faithful and supportive individuals I’ve known. My experience is only mine.

I also enjoy NOT going to meetings, and sitting next to my wife in church.
We visit 30 or so shut ins every other month, taking communion to them.
Otherwise we stay out of the way!!
