Like Compounding Interest

April 6, 2014

“If you work on something

a little bit every day,

you end up with something

that is massive.”

— Kenneth Goldsmith

“Teach us to number our days,” Psalm 90:12 begins.

More than realizing that this is the first day of the week or the last day of the weekend, this verse is about paying attention.

It’s about direction and purpose.

Like Mr. Goldsmith writes, everything we do amounts to something.

Slowly but inexorably, like compounding interest, however small it seems initially it’s eventually going to add up.  That’s a given; the final sum is the only question.  The process is in place; the result is the variable, based on what we do.

“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain wisdom,” is the rest of that Bible verse.

The Message Version is even clearer: “Teach us to live wisely and well!”

There are people in a nearby church ready to help you with this. They need your help, too.
