When Worship is Iced

March 2, 2014

Once upon a time since I’ve been out of seminary, a church was forced to cancel Sunday activities for two weeks in a row due to weather.

Shock and dismay reigned at the Church Council meeting the following month.

The Treasurer’s Report showed the two largest offerings anyone could remember ever having in that church…yup, during the two weeks of the ice storm.

Many, if not most, people realized that some might not send in their Tithes and Offerings if they hadn’t been to worship.   Knowing that the bulk of the ministry and expense continues beyond Sunday mornings, they sent in extra and in some cases, explained the Financial Secretary, they’d doubled their giving.

Lotta lessons in there.

Let me simply say it’s a joy and an honor to have served that church, and refer you to the last phrase of Luke 10:37.
