To Live into This Prayer
Don Saliers…where do I begin to tell about him?
His daughter is one of The Indigo Girls.
He was my faculty advisor at the United Methodist Seminary where I got my Master’s degree.
He’ll be the leader of a continuing education/spiritual formation event I get to be involved in later this year.
And yesterday he posted this:
The simplicity of The Lord’s Prayer is deceptive.
It contains more than any of us can understand.
These words lie in wait for us to catch up and catch on.
You go along and go along, repeating “holy,” “kingdom,” “will” and asking for bread, forgiveness and strength to avoid the tough tests and evil…then, all at once, the world shifts, injustice explodes, another senseless murder, too many people without bread, suffering seems everywhere–and you cry out these words “May it be so!”
What is it to live into this prayer in our world? This came out of a morning class today…..
Wow, Don…and amen.
