Freedom to Make Wrong Choices

January 19, 2014

Yesterday we looked at this: There are some, you know, who by relaxing their grip and thinking anything goes have made a thorough mess of their faith.  I let them wander off to Satan to be taught a lesson or two.

The entire paragraph names some names:  There are some, you know, who by relaxing their grip and thinking anything goes have made a thorough mess of their faith. Hymenaeus and Alexander are two of them. I let them wander off to Satan to be taught a lesson or two about not blaspheming.  That’s from 1st Timothy 1:19 & 20.

Imagine being named in The Bible, but called out as a bad example.  That’s what happened to Hymenaeus and Alexander.

My name could be listed with theirs.

There have been moments, days and even seasons of my life when I’ve made a thorough mess of (my) faith.

You, too?

Like the father of the prodigal son in Luke 15 and like St. Paul here in 1st Timothy, God does let (us) wander off to Satan.

Scripture is clear.

But even such freedom to make wrong choices is purposeful: I let them wander off to Satan to be taught a lesson or two.
