The Light at The Center

January 15, 2014

It went out.

Pastor Leanne and I’d tried several times to get all the Advent Candles lighted.  One of the two candles that Pastor Leanne had finally managed to get going flickered out while everyone sang.

Four candles around the Advent Wreath, only one had flame.

At the center was the much larger Christ candle.  No flame there, either.

Too many churches, too many small groups and classes, and too many of us Christians are exactly like that: no light of Christ at the center.

Oops.

Looking back and listening, we hear Isaiah: The sun will no more be your light by day, nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you, for the LORD will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory. (Isaiah 60:19)

Looking ahead and listening, we hear in the last book of the Bible that Night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light. (Revelation 22:5)

But here we are right now…too often paying no attention to the light of Christ at the center.

By the grace of God, we can do better.

Starting right now.

There is a song out the sixty’s that is called. “I can’t get no satisfaction”. For to many of us, this cannot be called our Christian life. We crave a Christ that is exciting as watching ice melt; or it is like the statue of the saint that use to sit on the dash of the car (Methodists really envied those catholic’s cause- at least they had a statue to show what they believed in); or, the best is, “I have tried so Hard.” I still think that Christ (can be worshiped in the church), but you will find Him out with the people-doing His thing. If taking communion is a blessing for you, take that out into your community so all can taste and see the Lord is good.
