Shovel That Off or Not?

“How much snow ya got?”

That’s a recurrent question today.  Some places are getting buried in it, others have a dusting on the ground.  Most of us are somewhere in between.

The next question is often about what to do next.  “Shovel that off or not?”  The answer usually revolves around the snow on the driveway.

“What are the roads like?”  The real issue is getting where you’re going safely.  Few of us drive vehicles with snowplows attached.

The same questions apply to other areas of our lives as well.

How much influence does a particular source have on us?  Is it good, or would getting rid of it be a better idea?  And who has already cleared a path for us?

Influence.  What feeds our souls and nourishes our minds, and what’s like spiritual and mental junk food?  Be transformed by the renewing of your mind, our old friend St. Paul tells us in Romans 12:2.

Shovel that off…or not.  Not everything we see, feel, hear and read is worth our time and energy. Some of it we need to shovel, or even scrape, off.  Instead: Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things, says Philippians 4:8. 

Cleared a path.  Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith, Hebrews 12:2 calls Him.  For centuries, His holy church has invited us to follow in His steps.

And so.  How much snow ya got where you are?
