Always But Never

December 11, 2013

“Though I am always in haste,

I am never in a hurry.”

—John Wesley

If we’re followers of Christ Jesus, we weave certain things into our lives.  Maybe this week, deeply into the Advent-Christmas season with 2014 waiting around the corner, it’s a good time for a self-inventory.

The One we follow took a turn leading worship.  He read from Scripture.  He announced his purpose.  The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor, He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor, said Jesus. (Luke 4:18,19)

Good news…freedom…healing…opportunity…and news of God’s favor — who today needs you to bring one or more of those to them?

But since we can’t give away what we don’t have, which of those do you need today for yourself?

This is serious stuff.  It’s the only way to move in the direction of being, in the words of John Wesley,  “always in haste, but never in a hurry.”

No time for frenzy.  It’s time for focus.
