Too Many Canaries
Not that I’ve already arrived,
but I keep moving forward.
— St. Paul, Philippians 3:12
This might have happened on the road between Effingham and Springfield.
Once upon a time, a delivery truck driver was hauling 10 tons of canaries. He had a long line of disgusted drivers behind him on the two-lane highway, because every couple of miles he’d stop, get out of the cab and pound on the side of the truck with a baseball bat.
After seeing this several times, the driver in the first car behind him got out and asked him what he doing and why.
“I got 10 tons of canaries in my 5 ton truck. Too many canaries. Gotta keep ’em moving around in there or they settle down and I can’t haul ’em.”
That’s one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard.
Except, uhm, I do that same goofy thing…not with canaries in a truck but with projects and promises.
You, too?
Got yourself over-extended?
What would happen if we’d try lightening our load, back to the essentials for which we’re designed?
It’s the only way to effectively keep moving forward.
