Same-Sex Marriage, All Persons, IL and The UMC
Bishop Jonathan Keaton issued the following statement on Tuesday, November 5th:
Today, the Illinois Legislature passed a bill legalizing same-sex marriage.
People have asked me where the United Methodist Church (UMC) stands on this issue.
The UMC opposes same-sex marriage. In addition, it “affirms that all persons are individuals of sacred worth, created in the image of God.”
Only General Conference speaks for the United Methodist Church.
That is our position.
