Practice What Lucas Preached
Lucas is a young teacher who’s a new daddy. Yesterday he made his first appearance as a member of our church’s Children’s Sermon Team.
Wearing an NFL jersey and carrying a football, he sat on the floor and told the children of our church about the rules in professional football.
They change all the time, he said, and he can’t always tell a Neutral Zone Infraction from an Offside penalty.
It quickly gets confusing. He likes to keep things simple.
In the Old Testament he noted that we have The Ten Commandments. Lucas pointed out that Jesus summarized those 10 with just 2.
“Love God is one,” he said, “and Love People is the other. Love people. A big part of that is being nice to them. To everybody.”
He said that list of “everybody” includes Green Bay Packers fans, and people who drive 30 on the highway when the speed limit’s 65, and “that kid who won’t share the swing. Everybody.”
Love God. Love people.
Good reminders as another work week begins.
Who will you encounter today that will give you an opportunity to practice what Lucas preached?
Loving Packer fans is easy, I’m from Wisconsin. People driving slow on the high way I smile and wave as I pass them. Those that don’t share the swing are hard to love. I guess i show them love by not shoving them off the swing. Does that count?

II wrote a fantastic comment about “The Cardinal Way” that appeared on the front page of my Post-Dispatch when I read it Sunday afternoon. By Bernie Miklasz (sp.). I was very impressed with this attitude that has permeated a team that fervently believes there is no “I” in the word and do not see each other as competitors, but equals! No doubt, this attitude, honoring the game and its traditions, are the key reasons our Cardinals have had such a successful year! If you haven’t read the article, it is an excellent read and on my FB page. This post isn’t as fantastic as the one I didn’t save and lost, but you know I will save this one!!!!!!!
