I’d Pray for Myself, But….

October 15, 2013

I promise to give nothing away here about the plot of the fabulous movie Gravity.

There’s a pivotal scene in which a character says, “I’d pray for myself, but nobody ever taught me how.”

Mercy.

Two quick things:

1.  Debbie Ikemire talked about how easy it is to pray in her Children’s Sermon this past weekend, and then she demonstrated that.  I am thankful the kids of our church family are learning from her and so many others in our church how to pray.

2.  That movie character wasn’t the first person to not know how to pray, and to want to ask for help.  “Lord, teach us how to pray,” is how Luke 11:1-13 begins.  If you don’t know what response Jesus gave, there’s your Bible reading for today…and if you do know, review that template today.

“I’d pray for myself, but nobody ever taught me how.”  Let’s teach how, and let’s demonstrate, how to pray for others as well as ourselves.

Because many don’t know.
