Praying to Be An Instrument of God’s Peace and Even More
Did St. Francis really write this? Did it really only first appear in print in 1912 in France?
Does that stuff really matter?
Correctly attributed to St. Francis or not, here is the first half of an English version of a prayer that untold numbers of people have memorized, pray regularly, and for which I am grateful:
Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is error, the truth;
Where there is doubt, the faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.
