Even We Are

September 16, 2013

I love Abe Lincoln stories.

In a classic cartoon drawn on the one hundredth anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s birth, John McCutcheon pictures two people in Kentucky talking.

“Anything new?” asks one.

“Nothing much,” says the other.  “Oh, there’s a new baby over at Tom Lincoln’s. But you know, nothing significant ever happens around here.”

Been there and done that.  Missed things of great significance.  Usually because they seem so ordinary.

Yet you and I serve a Lord who says, “I am making everything new.”  (Revelation 21:5)

Everything’s being made new.  Even we are.

That’s happening today.

Right where we already are.

As this new week begins at work and at school, let’s be watching for what’s new.

Including what’s new with us.

There’s significance in the seemingly ordinary.
