Flip the Switch: good advice from a good cup of coffee, 1st in a series.
The coffee smelled good in the hotel lobby that morning.
I was combining Robust, Regular and Decaf in my waxy thick-paper cup.
Putting it down to open the little blue container of French Vanilla creamer, I saw the stack of cardboard wrap-arounds for the coffee cups.
Pouring the pretend creamer concoction, I read the words on the top cardboard coffee cup holder.
I picked it up and as I was sliding it onto my cup, I noticed that the next one in the stack of brown cardboard looked different. More writing on one than the other or something.
Weird.
The coffee smelled great.
Tasted even better.
Savoring that first sip of coffee, I read the cup holder still in the container on the counter.
Then I read the one wrapped around my coffee.
They were indeed different.
Shuffling through the stack, I found there were in fact four different things printed on the various cup holders.
The one around my cup had this on it: “Flip the switch. The best form of light is natural.”
That’s good advice even beyond the hotel chain’s ecological emphasis. Psalm 89:15 says
Blessed are those
who walk in the light of your presence, O LORD.
Today, let’s flip the switch. Let’s walk in the light of God’s natural presence.
