New every morning is your love, great God of light,

and all day long you are working for good in the world.

Stir up in us desire to serve you,

to live peacefully with our neighbors,

and to devote each day to your Son,

our Savior, Jesus Christ the Lord.  Amen.

A friend and colleague in Indiana kindly gave me permission to quote him —

“I have thought a lot lately about how arrogant people are about titles and degrees and how it makes people feel that they are better than other people. I am thinking about putting up a framed document in my new office (new to me) that simply says “Stephen W. Brown, Servant.'”

Love that!

Fits perfectly with the idea of the second part of this prayer:
