What Are You Saying?

March 6, 2013

“What are you discussing?”

—Luke 24:17

It was the evening of the first Easter, but not everybody knew that yet.

It was a time of sadness and confusion for two people walking along the road from Jerusalem to Emmaus.

Luke 24 says “their faces were downcast,” and verse 14 says, “They were talking with each other about everything that had happened.”

Then Jesus walked along with them, but they didn’t recognize him.

He asked them a question: “What are you discussing together as you walk along?”

Today, imagine Jesus asking you and me at any point in our conversations, “What are you discussing?”

My first thought was “Yikes!”. Perhaps I need to pay more attention to my “small talk?! On the money again, my friend. May I ude this in the future – quoting you- as a devotion?
