Where is The One?

January 5, 2013

After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod,

Magi  from the east came to Jerusalem  and asked,

“Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews?

We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”

—Matthew 2:1 & 2

“We Three Kings” is a nice song, but it has a couple of significant inaccuracies.

The Bible doesn’t say they were Kings.  They were more like what we’d call Astrologers.  (Not Astronomers…Astrologers.)

The Bible doesn’t tell us how many there were.

Still, whoever and however many — they had a clear purpose: “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews?  We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”

They paid attention when God reached out to them.  They responded appropriately.

You and I can learn from them.

Let’s be watching for what God’s up to today, and let’s respond with appropriate action.

They might have been women for all we know.
