Joseph and I were having what he called a Guys Only Night cooking our favorite Son and Dad Dinner.
While our spaghetti was cooking, we talked about adding a spice to the bubbling pan.
We opened the cabinet with all those little jars lined up.
“Dad, how do you say the name of THIS one?” he asked. I had no idea.
We poured in some of the unpronounceable spice.
“And look, Joseph, here’s one we’ve heard of!”
We added it.
In fact, we used some of every spice in the cabinet.
But we never did that again.
The spaghetti had no flavor. Zero taste. None.
Everything cancelled out everything else.
Since then, I’ve realized that you and I can do that with our schedules and our lives.
We suddenly find ourselves overwhelmed. Like that spaghetti dinner, everything cancels everything else out.
What is there that’s adding too much spice to your week?
What might you leave out in the future?
Try it, and savor the flavor.
