Church the Weekend After the Election?
“Beware when politicians sound like preachers and preachers start sounding like politicians,” began an editorial in The Christian Century magazine two issues ago.
As a pastor who preaches and teaches as many as 9 times a week, that caught my attention and has haunted me.
As a nation, we will move forward from election day. What does the Church offer people still in the throes of elation or drowning in the depths of despair from Tuesday?
We offer exactly what we always do when we’re paying attention: faith, hope and love…found in the Good News of Christ Jesus.
Long before I was appointed here, the local church I’m honored to serve came up with reasons for their existence:
Know Christ
Grow in Christ
Show Christ
and
Become the Difference.
May the Body of Christ gathering together for worship this weekend after the election be true to our calling.
Each of us.
All of us.
Very well said Joe 🙂
