You’re Already Sloshing Over, but with What?

Two friends were coming into our church building.

I was hurrying out to preside and preach at a funeral.

“Look at this!” one of them said to me, waving her arms in every direction.  “Just look at all this!”

I stopped.

“It’s like God took a paintbrush to the trees!” the other said, a massive grin on his face. “And then put a spotlight on ’em so we’d be sure to notice!”

Those two were contagious.

We stood on the sidewalk, looking at the autumn trees.

We looked at each other, smiling and nodding.

There’s a line from an old hymn, “Lost in wonder, love and praise.”  We were.  Theirs had splashed over onto me.
