Running Because
True story, and the best ones always are:
A friend was on his daily 5 mile run, enjoying the early morning weather.
He heard a car coming behind him on the road.
The car slowed down. The car followed him. He waved the car around.
The car pulled up even with him, passenger window rolled down, driver frantically called out, “Who’s chasing you? Want me to call 9-1-1?”
My friend thanked the driver, and explained that he ran everyday to stay in shape. The driver said, “Oh. Yeah. Well. Sure.” The car left a cloud of dust.
Our friend St. Paul wrote, “I do not run aimlessly.” But too many of us do.
We complain about being too busy. We complain about not getting enough done. We complain about always being in a hurry, or about being behind.
Maybe we need someone to pull up alongside and ask us who’s chasing us.
Maybe we need to call a special 9-1-1 ourselves.
Maybe we need St. Paul as our running coach. I’ll bet he’d refer us to his own Coach, Christ Jesus.
