Yesterday’s Socks

June 2, 2012

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;

God’s mercies never come to an end;

they are new every morning;

great is your faithfulness.

— Lamentations 3:22-23

“Lamentations:” even the name sounds itself sounds like a downer.

Most of us don’t spend much time rummaging around in it.

Yet tucked in this Old Testament book is this: “God’s mercies…are new every morning.”

 How much time have you and I spent looking again for what God’s already done?  Meanwhile, our Lord’s moved on and now has something better for us and is waiting for us to catch up.

Why do we insist on wearing yesterday’s socks when when we have a drawer of clean ones?

God greets us with fresh grace right now.

Let’s help each other grab some today.

    Yesterday’s socks have that comfy lived in feel that fresh ones from the drawer take a couple of hours to acquire.
