“Anybody Here Wanna?” — #6 of 11
“I write these things
to you who believe in the name of the Son of God
so that you may know that you have eternal life.”
— 1st John 5:13
“Anybody here wanna live forever?” Ray Hildebrand sang that.
I heard him in Colorado. Six football players from our high school, my track and cross country coach, and I were there for a National Conference of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
“Anybody here wanna live forever?” was the first line of Ray’s song. “Say ‘I do.’ ” was the next.
It was at that event that I became a Christian. All the seeds planted in me by people like Sunday School teachers, VBS teachers and helpers and pastors had taken root.
It didn’t happen at a worship service, a rally, in a small group, or while praying. As I was walking from lunch back to the dorm one afternoon with some guys, I decided to “start taking this Jesus stuff seriously.” Those were my exact words.
Like 1st John 5:15 says, let today be the day you decide to stop wondering and “know that you have eternal life.”
And like Ray sang to thousands of us that week in August, “Anybody here wanna live forever? Say ‘I do.’ ”
