ASBURY REVIVAL 2023: Tom’s perspective

February 22, 2023

Tom McCall, an Asbury Theological Seminary professor of theology, shared this towards the end of last week —

A famous ‘worship leader’ called Asbury and offered to help. The answer? ‘Thank you so much, but there is no need for you to come. Our students are taking care of the music.’

If you know Asbury, you’re not even surprised by this. No famous people up there (I’ve heard that some are in the audience, by the way; they’re welcome but it never occurred to anyone to invite them because this simply isn’t about celebrity). Leadership committed to radical humility. Sincere and passionate students leading the way.

Also: if you are the praying kind, please pray for us. Extraordinary events like these have always drawn a very wide range of people: the hungry and desperate, the curious spiritual tourists, the voyeurs… and the charlatans and false prophets. They are all showing up.
